How a website works

When you type an address, your browser asks a server for a file. The server sends HTML (structure), CSS (look), and often JavaScript (behaviour). The browser draws that on your screen.

A static site is just files. A web app also talks to a database through a backend so the page can show your account, a cart, or live data.
